2D 1N is a lovely, easy, 63km ride across the  flat Gippsland Plains. This cycle gets you out into the wide open spaces with beautiful clear blue skies. The trail is perfect for weekend short breaks or cycling with the kids on their one of their first experiences of cycle touring

This is a lovely Rail Trail - completely FLAT, easy cycling with 360 views across the sweeping Gippsland Plains to the Great Dividing Range. There are lots of small towns to explore along the way, each with their own distinct flavor, we are sure you will love this easy cycle. Come on the 1st weekend of the month if you are a Market fan as there are wonderful fresh produce markets in Heyfield on the 1st Saturday and Maffra on the 1st Sunday of each month.

For the most part, the trail follows what was the railway line between Traralgon and Stratford which was opened in 1883; thus connecting Far East Gippsland and Central Gippsland with Melbourne. It allowed rail transportation of the timber being produced in Heyfield also, and the thriving sugar beet and dairy industries in Maffra. There are many historic buildings along the way especially in Maffra where the Gippsland Vehicle Collection has an outstanding display of more than 160 special cars, motorbikes, machinery, historic vehicles and auto memorabilia.

Cowwarr has lots of arty cows, each decorated as part of the streetscape. It has an art Gallery in the old Butter factory and the Cricketers Arms Hotel for a lunch stop. Heyfield has the wetlands and wetlands walk, home to a variety of different bird species. It is worth exploring the Knob Reserve, of immense Aboriginal significance, close by Stratford at the end of the rail trail.
